Cancun and Riviera Maya both saw a decline in average hotel room occupancy in October 2018.12/2/2018 According to Sedetur, the Department of Tourism of the state of Quintana Roo, the hotels in both Riviera Maya and Cancun/Puerto Morelos saw a drop in average hotel room occupancy in October 2018 compared to October last year.
The hotels in Riviera Maya saw their average room occupancy drop from 70.7% in October 2017 to 69.0% in October this year while the hotels in Cancun/Puerto Morelos saw their average room occupancies fall from 67.7% in October 2017 to 67.3% in October 2018. Through the first ten months of 2018 the hotels in Riviera Maya have achieved an average room occupancy of 80.4%, down from 83.4% for the first ten months of 2017, while those in Cancun/Puerto Morelos have achieved an 79.9% average room occupancy year-to-date in 2018 down from 81.6% for the first ten months of 2017. Riviera Maya has 46,958 hotel rooms while the Cancun/Puerto Morelos area has 40,835 hotel rooms.

According to the Hawaii Tourism Authority, Hawaii saw the volume of air arrivals increase by 4.0% in October 2018, growing from 718,961 arrivals in October 2017 to 747,926 arrivals in October 2018. Air arrivals from the USA grew by 8.6%, from 433,060 in October 2017 to 470,481 in October 2018, but declined 3.0% from Japan (to 130,809 air arrivals). The volume of air visitors grew by 1.5% from Canada (to 30,346 air arrivals). Tourist spending in October fell by 0.7% to $1.311 billion.
Through the first ten months of 2018 Hawaii saw a 6.4% increase in the volume of air arrivals, growing from 7,669,841 arrivals in the first ten months of 2017 to 8,163,637 air arrivals in the same ten months of 2018. Air arrivals from the USA increased by 9.2% in the first ten months of 2018, growing from 4,834,327 air arrivals in 2017 to 5,277,116 air arrivals in the same ten months of 2018 but fell 2.0% from Japan (to 1,306,769 air arrivals). They grew by 3.8% from Canada (to 412,740 air arrivals). Total tourist spending increased by 8.8% in the first ten months of 2018, growing from $13.73 billion in 2017 to $14.93 billion in 2018. Average spend per visitor per day grew by 2.6%, from $198.10 per day in 2017 to $203.30 in 2018, while average spend per person per trip increased by 2.3%, from $1,765.90 in 2017 to $1,807.20 in 2018. In the first ten months of 2018 34.3% of Hawaii’s tourists were visiting for the first time with 65.7% having visited the state before. |
